Help for Tech Neck in Helensvale, Gold Coast

woman looking down at her phoneTech neck is a term used to describe the postural strain that can develop when the head sits forward of the shoulders for extended periods. This forward-head posture can increase load through the neck and upper back. With so much time spent on phones and laptops, it’s a common postural pattern we see.

What can be challenging is how early these patterns can start. When clinically indicated, an assessment (and sometimes imaging) may show postural or joint changes that can be associated with prolonged forward-head posture. It’s never too late to try and improve posture, and even the worst habits over time can be corrected with the right support.

How Tech Neck May Affect the Body

When the head drifts forward, the muscles and soft tissues around the neck, shoulders and upper chest often have to work harder to compensate. Over time, this can contribute to tightness across the chest and shoulders and feelings of tension around the neck and upper back.

This posture can also influence how the spine loads and moves. In some people, it may contribute to discomfort beyond the neck, depending on daily habits, work setup and overall movement.

How We May Be Able to Help

Dr Hennessy (Chiropractor) takes a practical, whole-body approach to supporting people with tech-related posture concerns. Care may focus on improving movement through the spine, addressing muscle imbalances, and helping you understand how to support your posture between visits. This may include a tailored treatment protocol including soft tissue techniques, cranial sacral therapy and a personalised exercise routine. This approach aims to help the old habits to disappear and encourage new habits through correct posture when you are standing, sitting or working.

Our goal is to help you feel more comfortable and confident in how you move—and to give you practical strategies you can use day-to-day.
